Research & Innovation in Action
Annual Impact Report 2022-23
The University of Windsor sits on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, which includes the Ojibwa, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. We respect the longstanding relationships with First Nations people in this place in the 100-mile Windsor-Essex peninsula and the straits– les détroits– of Detroit.
Research, innovation and creative activity are powerful tools to engage in truth and reconciliation. We are committed to meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, respecting the sovereignty of Indigenous data, and amplifying Indigenous voices.
University of Windsor Research Impact Report 2022-2023
The University of Windsor is a leader in discovery, where innovative research, scholarship, and creative activity move us toward a brighter, more equitable future.
Our dedicated faculty members working alongside our students and trainees, research staff, and community and industry partners, not only expand the boundaries of knowledge, but also prioritize student learning, nurturing the next generation of trailblazing researchers, innovators, and leaders.
In this report, we highlight the impact of UWindsor’s research, scholarship and creative activity on communities locally and globally. By addressing the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, our research actively contributes to making our world healthier and more equitable, creative, and sustainable. We are putting our research into practice, collaborating with industry, government, and advocacy groups, while advancing disciplinary fields and addressing complex societal challenges to benefit Canadian society and inform better public policy.
Among the stories we highlight is how we are building healthier communities by studying the potential for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify and combat social isolation, a critical factor in health outcomes. We are also tackling inequalities head-on by breaking down barriers to employment, incorporating Indigenous knowledge and the experiences of people with disabilities in our research.
In the fields of natural sciences and engineering, our researchers are at the forefront, offering indispensable scientific support to industries, pioneering advancements in aerospace, vehicle manufacturing, fuel alternatives, and environmental conservation. We are finding ways to protect our ecosystems, locally and globally.
Our commitment to creativity extends beyond academia as we find innovative ways to share stories, revitalize history, and engage our communities. We are proud to facilitate access to education, employment, and justice, ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
The University of Windsor takes immense pride in our innovative and creative endeavours. We are driven by the discovery of new approaches to social, economic, health, and cultural development and change, both within our campus and beyond. It is through collaborative, integrated, and interdisciplinary approaches that progress will be made. Individual contributions are important and collective contributions are powerful. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more prosperous future for all through bold and impactful research, scholarship, and creative activity.
